knock sensor question,99 park ave

I have a 99 park ave, it seem to staggr when iam pulling out of curbs, and sometime on the highway the rpm needle goes to zero.I got a diagnosic it says my sensors are bad. 2 engine and a crank position sensor. My question is if i got these sensors repalce would that stop the physcail problems of my car the staggering and the rpm gauge needle?

Re: knock sensor question,99 park ave

hi fahaka,

I know this is long but i think it explains it well.

i was reading this great forum because i wanted to see if anyone has the same problem as i. I found your post and have to say that it sounds a lot like what i have on my '97 PA Ultra.

I drove to Alabama this weekend and all the way there and it was a beautiful ride, no probs whatsoever. Then on Sat. when i was driving (in hot weather) i threw on the a/c and then heard a thump and then the car hesitated followed by a slight acceleration and finishing with the "Service Engine Soon" light coming on and the RPMs dropped to 0. The car didn't turn off and it kept driving fine but it felt a lil' weaker.

I took it to Autozone and with a scanner found out that the code for the SES light was for the crankshaft position sensor. I reset the sensor.
Today as i drove back i felt the thump but lighter and the RPMs went to 0 but no SES light. I was going about 70ish both times and had been accelerating about 3m/sec. About half way home i stopped for gas and when i turned the PA back on the light was gone(off).???!?!?!?Beats me. Feeling confident i threw on a/c and... no probs, no lights.

Just before i got home i stepped on it and even with the a/c on... surprise the RPMs went to 0 again, but no light. And it felt a little weak again.

If i step on it a little hard from stopped, it sounds like either the engine or trans hits or thumps against something a little, mounts perhaps??I also feel the staggering when pulling away from the curb like you.

Just letting you know you ain't alone. Even with these few things wrong i wouldn't trade it for anything else. When it is fine, this baby hauls @$$
I love superchargers, and my '97 PA Ultra.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY FIX PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really need to solve this one...

Thanks, Ernie!!!

Sounds like you need to install a crank position sensor and a front transmission mount. Both seem to fail quite often on these cars.
