Class Action Suit against Chrysler
Is any one aware of or interested in starting a Class Action suit against Chrysler regarding the 2.7 liter engines that were installed in the Intrepid and any other cars from the years 1999 to 2004? If there is any information I would appreciate it. Thank you for your help.
Respectfully, Intrepid Sitting In Driveway |

Re: Class Action Suit against Chrysler
My friend is on his 3rd engine 2.7 in his 99. I am sure he'd be interested. Along the same lines, anyone else have suspension probs with these cars?? and interested in suing??

They should be sued, but on what basis? All they did was put out a hugely faulty product....but they didn't endanger anyone and they made no guarantees as to how many miles the car would provide. I just had my 2.7 go out....pretty irritated at it because it only had 80,000 miles on it and I babied it.... Wish there could be a suit, but there's nothing to really get them on.

If a 2.7 blows up,convert it to a 3.2 and you need the donor car(A wrecked 1998 and up Dodge Intrepid or Chrysler Concorde will do for the donor car) to do it for certain parts. The 3.2 is a whole lot better and has more power than the 2.7.I have done one and I am going to do another one that way.The 3.2 fits in with no problems at all.I did one to a 1999 Chrysler Concorde with a blown up 2.7 that my father bought at a dealer only auto auction and converted it to a 3.2,ran a whole lot better with more power.

But a faulty part, as long as it is not exploding, setting the car on fire, and killing people, then there's no need for a suit. If this were to happen to me, I would be upset as well, I still owe $11,000 on my 2002 and I'd be screwed right now. But suing Chrysler is just going to be a long, drawn out process that's not even worth it. Other class action suits have been formed and never materialized because people just didn't feel like waiting for months and months to get answers. I'm not trying to discourage anyone who feels that they may have a legitimate case, but I'm just trying to add another side of the coin that may not be seen. I've read sites from the internet on how the government is interested in owners who have had engine failures, but honestly, do you think the government will get something going quickly? If they're having a hard time with social security, how will they be able to organize a subpoena against DaimlerChrysler? Again, not to sound pessimistic, just being realistic

Re: Class Action Suit against Chrysler
If you think you bought a junk car, sue yourself for making such a bad choice. There is plenty of info on the Internet, no excuse for making the choice you made.
BTW I happen to like Intrepids, 3.2 or 3.5 only though, 2.7's are too fragile. |

Re: Class Action Suit against Chrysler
Hi everyone new to the forum. but here is my input about this issue. I think that 2.7 motors should`ve been recalled and replaced with a 3.2 or a 3.5 in my opinion. Yes some people have died because of faulty steering especially an 8 yr. old girl . she died on impact (thank goodness no suffering) so i think that dodge should do something about it!

The 3.2 is the better engine, outruns the 2.7.Chrysler has done a "cover up" as a fix on the 2.7.It is to replace part of the wiring harness with a vent hole in it.Chrysler has done nothing about the 2.7.All they did was do revamps on the waterpump 5 times.I heard this from a Jasper rep that comes in my father's shop. The 2.7 also has a weak bottom end.My father and I have redone the bottom ends on 3 or 4 2.7s so far.One blame is the antifreeze also, the antifreeze that Chrysler uses foams up and I have seen that.Replace the antifreeze with green.

I think the entire problem with the 2.7 is the Internal Water Pump- it leaks at the Bearing- Centrifical force carries water out to the Chain and Sprocket- the chain carries the water up to the head, it creates water and oil sludge which then clogs the Hydraulic Tensioner, this allows the Chain to become loose and sloppy, it skips off the Sprockets, one of which runs the Oil pump- no lube- engine siezes up, breaks the chain, then the Valves collides with the pistons. Why else is there water in the heads causing sludge, when the head is not cracked or the head gasket- and why with pristine maintenace is their Sludge- Water Contaminations, and it can only be from two sources if not the Heads- 1. The water pump 2. The Oil cooler -connected to the Radiator-and I don't think 2 is possible. |

Chyrsler has an obligation to inform the Public about this Engine, and anyone selling a Car with a 2.7 and not informing the buyer has engaged in a Deceptive Trade practice- and everyone who owns one of the Vehicles with the 2.7 can and should sued for a Latent Defect- which means the Warranty begins at "Discovery" - in other words when the Engine fails or Chrysler informs you. They owe for the Repairs. I like my 99 Intrepid and I am not trying to bad mouth Chrysler, but they sold me a product with a Latent Defect and they owe for the Repair of the Defect- and the damaged it caused- A latent defect in part is any defect that is Concealed from view or one which a normal person cannot see or detect. The 2.7 is expensive to fix.Just did one today but in a 2001 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it.The timing chain went bad and luckily did not bend the valvesThe timing chain is about $138.00 from the dealer only.Basically, the parts are expensive for a 2.7.

Re: Class Action Suit against Chrysler
Okay - so if you have a DEAD/Sludged 2.7... NOW WHAT?
Go up to Auburn Hills, MI and beat on their front desk until they do something about it? I'm pissed about mine with only 83,000 mi on it and we still owe on the car...less than the cost of a new/rebuild/remfr engine ($5,000 at last check) and so i'm stuck with a nice lawn-ornament (not my description, but it works). Any suggestions are appreciated. - Ray - |

Re: Class Action Suit against Chrysler
generally the 2.7 will last if the oil is changed at every 3000 4000 km or use synthetic oil or both synthetic and every 4000 km you cannot change the oil too much for this or any other engine
