I had the BOO switch replaced to fix the shift problem I was having. Come to find out that the Crusie still does not work. I tried the crusie diagnostic and found the set/accell, coast, resume switch does not work. Could this be affected by the BOO switch as well? If I got the wires crossed would it still allow the shifter to work correctly?
Thanks in advanced. 98 Taurus SE |

It's unlikely that a BOO switch could cause a cruise concern if it's working correctly (if your brake lights are coming on, it's good). On the Tauraus, those buttons were bad about going out. You used to have to replace the steering wheel to get the buttons but now you can get them from the dealer seperate and they just pry out with a small screwdriver. Check your deactivator switch on your master cylinder. It's common for those to leak brake fluid through them, causing a short.

Thanks I will check that out. I was thinking that the switches needed to be replaced. It is not that difficult to replace them I just need to disconnect the battery so that the air bag does not go off. After that it is fairly simple to remove the air bag and replace the cruise switches.

Well I flushed the power steering because the fluid was really dirty. Now I am able to use the cruise switches to run the diagnostic. The result was 2 flashes which points to the brake light switch. I am going to buy a new one from Napa and replace it myself this weekend.
If anyone wants the diagnostic instructions go here. http://v8sho.com/SHO/IntermittentCruiseControl.htm |
