6 bolt/7 bolt Clutch swap stuff

Hey, I am confused right now and I would love some clarification.

Here is my situation...

I am in the process of having an engine swap done on my 1994 Talon TSi FWD. Which, is a 7 bolt. The new engine I got was from an AWD and is a 6 bolt.

Now, the guy doing my swap for me has told me that the clutch which I bought before hand will not fit on this one as the bolt pattern is different, is this correct? The clutch I bought was for a 1G FWD. I was talking with someone else who I would consider exceptionally knowledgeable and he figured it should work, but I am not sure if he fully understands.

Please give me some insight into this situation, I would like to use the clutch if it will work with this.

Thanks.

Re: 6 bolt/7 bolt Clutch swap stuff

You need a FWD flywheel in order for the motor to work in your car. The reason he thinks its a different bolt pattern is because the AWD flywheel is smaller than the FWD flywheel and since its a different bolt pattern he suspects that the clutch needs to be different.

Personally I dont know how much I would like this dude working on my car! I mean if he thinks different bolt patterns need a different clutch who knows if he can set timing or yet get the thing running without fucking it up in the process.

Get a FWD 6 bolt flywheel off tuners or trader and give it to him, then see what he says.

EDIT: BTW, if anyone was wondering why it is smaller, it is because it needs to clear the TC shaft that comes out of the bell housing on the lower righthand side if your looking at the tranny from under the car.

Re: 6 bolt/7 bolt Clutch swap stuff

yeah, we determined that it was smaller. I have a FWD Flywheel on the way, but the clutch will work for sure, that is all I was wondering. I trust this guy a lot, he is very knowledgeable and has done a lot of work on a lot of peoples cars. He hasnt done anything on a DSM before this though. He didnt want to work on mine, but he decided he would do me a favour. The AWD Flywheel is like 1/2" smaller right?

As long as I have confirmation that my clutch that I bought will work on this that is cool, and that is what I gather.

Thanks for helping me out!
