4wd ? again

I know you guys get this alot but... I have a 95 z-71 350 TBI. just bought the truck and the 4 wheel drive doesn't work, the lights wouldn't even come on in the floor. went to the dealership and they said bad actuator. So i go get one and put it in and the lights come on and flicker and now they won't come on anymore. checked my fuse in the the fuse block and it is good. i know the actuator is working b/c before i put it in the axle i put it in 4 hi with the actuator out the shaft on the actuator moves. but after i put the actuator into the axle i can't tell if it it is working. is there something on the transfer case that controls lights in the floor? also this may help, in my fuse block there is a fuse for t-case and 4wd. hte 4wd does not have a fuse or the little metal prongs that hold a fuse in, is this normal? any help would be awesome.

Re: 4wd ? again

Sounds like an electrical problem! check all conections betwean tranfer case & front axle. Make sure plunger is moving in & out.Sorry dont know about the wierd fuse.I would look for a bad ground or wire first.

Re: 4wd ? again

There is a switch on the tcase that powers the front axle actuator, its on top of the tcase above the front driveshaft. There is also a switch on the front axle that is supposed to indicate when the axle is engaged, the connector should be next to the front axle actuator connector- I would unhook the connector and check the pins for corrsion and put some dielectric grease on the pins

Re: 4wd ? again

If you mean the axle can move in and out of the front diff 4"s, that is NOT normal. Sounds like you have a snapped axle shaft or something else is broken in the gearing in the diff. Sorry!
