wondering about Banks exhaust

HI,
I wonder if anybody has installed the Banks exhaust options on a 5.7 newer that 96?
I have a 97 and have a brochure that shows two versions. One includes the muffler back with a fat tailpipe. (CAT back?) and the other also includes the stainless steel headers.
I am curious if the muffler is really not too loud and if there is a power gain. They even state a small mileage gain.

Thanks,
Bob B

Re: wondering about Banks exhaust

I thought banks made pipes for thier diesel turbo.I may be wrong but look closer to make sure its for a gas guzzler!!A good set of headers & good pipes & mufflers will up horse power & mileage.Cheap ones wont help much.

Re: wondering about Banks exhaust

Not familiar w/ Banks exhaust myself. But like ace says, new pipes and muff can make significant difference in overall performance. Thats is if its done right!! When people ask me about these 2 simple, common upgrades, I like to explain it to them like this: Your vehicle needs to "breathe." Like when you're physically active you breath heavier so that your body may take in more air (oxygen for the blood to br technical). Thus, the more air your vehicle can consume, the more fuel you can burn. The next basic thing is to get rid of the exhaust faster (similar to you breathing out faster) so that you can keep this cycle going. It's kind of like algebra in high school. You remember an equation, what you doi to one side you have to do to the other....

Yes they do make diesel pipes, but i saw an advert in a magazine for also gas engines.
So I asked for the brochure with prices. they forgot to add the prices, but I can call an 800 number for more info.
The guy said that the computer reprogram requires higher octane fuel so they don'r recommend it.

I have seen the banks exhaust kits advertised on several performance truck web sites, yes they are for gas. Seem kind of expensive though. Something like 600 dollars for the cat back and over a grand including the headers.

They don't "forget" to add the prices, it's an evil plan to make you want a product really bad. After thinking about how cool it would be, you can't hang up, even after they tell you it's so much you need to sell one of your livers to pay for it.

Re: wondering about Banks exhaust

Installed Banks system on my 98 chevy 454, it is great, increased power and mileage. Wouldn't do it again though because of price. Wasn't impressed with the fit either. Go with stainless, (lifetime guarantee) but some other brand.
