question about testors spray paint

I have been following some of the How To's on painting a body and i have been using testors orange gloss....I have completed all the steps but I was wondering if I need to use a clear coat or not. It looks more like a semi-gloss finish right now, and i really want a high gloss. I have searched and only found info on tamiya paint. I know all paints are different so i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with testors spray, and whether i should do a clear coat or polish? thanks

If It's Metalic Or Pearl, Clearcoat First Then Polish
If It's A Solid Color,You Can Do It Ether Way Or Both
(Polish/Clear Or Clear/Polish Or Polish/Clear/Polish)
Also Make Sure Not To Use Enamel Over Lacquer
But You Can Lacquer Over Enamel.
If You Haven't Tryed Testors New Lacquer System
I Highley Recomend It, I Have Had Greeat Results With It
And It Polishes Out Nicely

Re: question about testors spray paint

i agree with you on the new lacquer system. I just painted a 71 charger in Green Go, and I love this stuff. didn't quite wait long enough for it to cure before i went to polishing. im about to re spray it now....doh

the part about lacquer over enamle is absolutely wrong. The proper
order (from the bottom layer to the top layer) that won't damage is Laquer, then enamel over that, then acrylic on top. Anecdotal evidence might have suggested enamel over laquer is incorrect but there is a guide supplied by tamiya that says other wise

Re: question about testors spray paint

Like Eddie said, never spray lacquer over enamel.

Re: question about testors spray paint

With personel experience, I sprayed Testors Gloss over Tamiya Metallic Red Spray Paint, and it cracked all to sh!t.

Just my 2 cents worth

Re: question about testors spray paint

Most Testors sprays, besides the new lacquers, are not of excellent quality. The clears yellow after time as well.
