Just calling it a whining noise isn't very specific but I think my 94 Prelude has something similar to what you are describing. I was just assuming it was the belts (I get that squeaky noise sometimes when I first start the car) but it might be something else. Did he do anything recently to the engine or have any work done on it?

Re: Re: whinning noise from buddies prelude

yes...but i dont think any of it would have to do with this noise...he had to replace the pressure plate which of course meant re-surfacing the flywheel...i was told that preludes also have trouble with timing belts? but this noise doesn't seem like a belt..maybe a pully or something..i dont know how to describe the sound, its like a loud whinning and it dont stop...even when it is warmed up... it still sounds liek its coming from around or undr the altinator...any ideas?

would u happen to know what he did? bekuz my prelude makes the same noise..and I can't describe it other than a "whine". Its not the powersteering bekuz i had that replaced when i did the swap. I thought nothing of it before b/c it doesn't seem to affect anything. It does it from the startup and it doesn't ever go away...any help would be appreciated

Well im that guy that has the whinning noise from my prelude..You know the one kory was talkin about.. Well the whinning noise came back again and it hasnt stoped. I took it to a shop and they said it was my power sterring pump goin out...Does it change noises when you turn the wheel?? if it does that might be it.....

I've had that problem, a slight noise from the power steering pump. It would make like a high pitched intermident noise. sometimes it would stop then come back on. I had that replaced then I heard another noise. That noise was a small rip in the power steering belt, had that replaced and i was fine
