Snow plow options

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum this is my first post. I have a 1993 1500 4x4 EXT cab with a 5.7 L 350 CI in it. I am thinking about eventually putting a snowplow onto this truck so I can make some money during these Michigan winters. I have looked into several plows maker’s websites such as Boss and Western and they do not advise of using a plow on this truck. What do you guys think anyone here with a 1500 and a plow on it? I heard the only difference between the 1500 and the 2500 are the springs and the thickness of the body. Is this right? I also heard it was just the suspension but I don’t know. Any advice is welcome!

Doubt the thickness of the body is different, would cost GM too much money to do that. I'm in Texas so I don't really know what snow is, but I bet whoever or whatever didn't advise putting a plow on that truck because its a nice truck. Say you own a Ford F150, I bet they say its ok to put a plow on that piece of &#$*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah it is a pretty nice truck, My dad is a engineer at GM and he didn’t think there was a thickness difference but I got a friend whose dad is a mechanic and whatnot and he says its thicker. Yeah plows beat the hell out of trucks but I wont care when I’m pushing 170 K. Would not trust a ford F150 with a plow on it, Or a F250 or just any fords in general hehe.

the 2500 has bigger axle tube & 3\4 ton springs bigger brakes bigger axle bearings 8 lug wls in most cases.No differences as to the bodys.Usually a heavy duty transmision & tranfer case also.I have a 94 ex cab 1500 but would not expect it to last long if plowing comercialy. Mabey light personal use but in my town in cold ass michigan most the good plow trucks are 3\4 or 1 tons.(in other words you will probly be spendin the money you made plowin on repairs)

Yeah thanks for the help there welederman, I guess if I ever want to do some big plowing jobs ill just sell the truck and pick up a older 2500. Where in Michigan are you located?

Dont get me wrong it can be done w a half ton truck BUT the extra wt of the plow alone would probly bottom your suspension let alone when the snow starts sticken to your plow adding a couple hundred more pounds to it .Concord near Jackson or as we call it corncobb.

Yeah i was thinking if i was going to add a plow on it i was going to upgrade the suspension and add some 2500 springs. I live in Howell

There are a couple of companies out thier w poly plows (light wt) dont know who or where but ive seen em around.I use to plow but with a 1 ton dump with a v blade .fill er up w salt & go totaly unstopable!!!At home I use my bad ass HONDA forman with 60 in blade I load the racks with a few bricks & go.I do 370 feet of drive in about an hour But when blizzerds hit we call my bud with a truck or tractor.

Not sure about the frame on the GM?Chevy trucks, but I have seen a few 1500 series from ford plowing up here in Canada and let me say two words, bent frames. For plowing go big or go home, and try diesel while you're at it.
