blower motor

I did a search first but nothing like what i'm having going on

Just in last 2 days blower fan quit working. When i would "hit" the motor housing it would start working again, but then after shut off it would not start. So i bought a new motor at auto zone and put it in (that job sucks), but now it won't do anything. Could this be a faulty new motor? or is there something i'm overlooking? Thanks for any responses

Re: blower motor

I would check the electrical connections at the motor, both power and ground. Make sure the terminals are a tight fit. If everything seems OK, possible bad motor. Try running jumper wires directly from battery.

Re: blower motor

Most of these have two separate circuits for the blower. A high speed circuit with a relay and the slower speeds with a resistor pack to regulate the speed. This resistor is the comon problem. Located usually on the top of the blower housing, two small bolts and a plug in connection. Some full size have this inside in front of the glove box, others are under the hood right beside the blower. But you would usually have the high speed blower though I think.

Re: blower motor

Also, should be able to hotwire blower and prove it works, just a good size wire from the + terminal on battery to the blower connection.

Re: blower motor

You did not mention the year. If this is a pre-95 or first gen, check the switch, they melt down and arc.

well went out and cleaned the purple and black wires and bent the purple one a bit to make sure it was contacting the terminal but still no motor, so i hit the motor housing several time with a big mag lite, and it turned on. So i turned the car off and on several times and blower was still working, so is it possible that it just needed a little TLC from the light or is this the sign of a broken new motor?

Weird.

Just keep the receipt.

Also, isn't the resistor pack in the blower housing?
