2k2 Silverado 1500 abs issues

My 2k2 1500 Silverado is having abs issues: when i apply the brakes they work fine until ive got the truck to about 5-10mph... at this point the abs engages and prevents the truck from stoping! Any ideas?

check your front wheel bearing i'm willing to bet one of them is bad causing fine particles to build up on the sensor. you could take the sensors out and clean them will work for a while and you will be able to tell which one . I'm after changin alot for this problem

You are right , i have the letter sitting in front of me. Vehicles located in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunsick, Nova Scotia and PEI. Vehicles effected are certain 99-02 Silverados, 00-02 Tahoe, Suburbans, 02 Avalanches, 99-02 Sierra's, 00-02 Youkon's, Youkon XL. Too bad this letter was sent to me but does not include my truck, luckily i do not have this problem. GM screwed something up and i got someone elses VIN# instead of my own. Another luckily; no outstanding recalls for mine either.

I had the same problem in a 97 2500 and it was the speed sensor in the transmission, I believe.

I'll make this real easy for you, there is a recall , if you did not get a letter either wait till you do or call the dealer or GM of Canada and they will let you know.

This is actually an easy problem to solve. I had the same problem on my 99. What happens is that rust builds up on the hub underneath the sensor and lifts it from the hub giving a false reading. All you have to do is take the sensor off, plug the whole (don't want dust in the mechanism), completely clean the area on the hub, remove the plug, and put the sensor back on. Works like a charm. I also put a light coating of never-cease on the hub to prevent future rust.
