Oil consumption
I have a 2001 Tahoe. I maintain a decent PM on this vehicle. The oil is changed between 3000 to 5000 miles. I now have 58,000 on it and it runs top notch other than the regular quirks that pop up now and then with the Hoe. I noticed a usage of oil, 1/2 to a quart about every couple thousand miles. I have crawl over and under the engine and there are no leaks, none on the car port. I always kept my engines clean so that I can spot leaks. I was told somewhere that oil consumption was normal for the 5.3L. Just wondering if anybody else has experience this with thier Hoe and could explain it....

I have the same vehicle, 01 with a 5.3L V8. And I've experienced the exact same problem, loosing almost a quart of oil in about 5k miles. Mine is also kept spotless inside and out so I can easily see any leaks. But I've found none. I do however see a fair amount of soot buildup at my tailpipe. So I'm assuming it is being burned. I've spoken to the dealer and was also told this was a common occurence with the 5.3L engine. And he said if I only loose a quart between oil changes then that's very good for having 100k miles on my truck. If you should find out any more info please let me know.
