I have a '96 e36 that came with the standard 11 button cockpit computer. The problem is that the LED display only displays about 10% of the characters. Everything works fine, and will notify me when I have an issue. The only problem is, I can't read it.
Here is my question; can I replace the module with an 18 button model, and is it a plug and play set up? I've heard that they need to be coded for my car, not sure. I've found a few replacements, but am reluctant to purchase until I know for sure. Help is appreciated. |

Its the LEDs
Appreciate the gouge on the 11 to 18 OBC conversion. I will probably do that.
I've had the OBC out and taken apart, and do know that it is the LEDs. Naturally you cant buy (as far as I know) a replacement LED strip, the whole module has to be replaced. Is there any truth about requiring the new module to coded? XP_Greg |
