"Check Engine Light"

I have a Hyundai Accent GSGT 97... and the "Check Engine" light came on... Does anyone know what can I do to see whats wrong with it? I think it was the gas cap but then after I closed it up again the light was still on... is there any way i can reset it the car computer to see if it was that or not?

Re: "Check Engine Light"

If it was caused by the gas cap, it will usually take 3 or 4 days for the light to go out.
The computer stores several day's worth of code and it will continue to show the 'Check Engine' light until that line of code goes off.
My recommendation would be to call the Hyundai garage and check specifically with them how many days it would take for the light to go out if you'd had it come on due to the gas cap, they should be happy to tell you.
If you're sure it was the fuel cap that caused it to come on, wait for a couple of days, but if it's still on after 4 days, definitely get it checked.
