Question Advice on speeding ticket validity

Hi,

I've got a speeding ticket in the North Queens area of NYC. The traffic
cop put down incorrect speed limit of the zone in the ticket (30 MPH in
the 50 MPH). I found a web site (http://www.nycroads.com/history/speed_NYC/) showing the speed limit of the zone confirming it's 50 not 30.

The ticket, a public document that will be used in a court hearing,
carries inaccurate information. Also, it seems, the cop lied about the
speed limit, even though he knows the correct number. Is the ticket
still valid? Does anyone know if this information can be used to beat
the ticket in the court? Any legal references available?
Will appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Todd

hmm...the cop wrote down that the speed limit was 30...when the speed limit was 50? maybe he clocked you at a part where the speed limit was 30 and followed u for a lil bit?? if not then i wouldn't think that the ticket is valid...especially if you have proof that the zone is a 50 zone...

I don't think that the website by itself will be sufficient proof. You need something official looking. Try taking pictures of the area showing the speed limit sign.

Re: Advice on speeding ticket validity

yeah...that site has no information about what road exactly you were on...different roads have different speed limits...even the same road can have different speed limits at different parts...so yeah...take pictures of where the cop says he pulled u over (it should say it on the ticket) and take a picture of the speed limit sign...even tho i don't know how much that is goin to work, since they could say that is at another place...i dunno...

Don't take the picture close, as in only the sign. Take a picture of the area, like the entire street, just make sure that the speed limit sign is visible, and you can read the numbers.

Re: Advice on speeding ticket validity

i kno wat u meant, but just because he takes a picture of the area doesn't mean it stands out as that area...like back roads can look very similar in different places...
