help tranny problem

today as i coming to a stop i shited down to neutral. when i try to put in gear it wouldn let me. later after messing with it for a while i figure out that when my z was turn off it would go into gear and my clutch pedal would get harder but when the car was running, the cluth would get soft and it wouldnt go into gear. what could be the problem. i change the clutch sleve and try to purge the line but know the pedal that pushes the clutch sleve wont even move. dont know if i'm explanning right but if anyone has any sugg. please let me know. also i have a new clutch not even a month old.

im betting its in the hydraulics...check the fluids. if fluid is fine then i would look at the slave or master cylinder...

Re: help tranny problem

I can't quite see why the clutch would feel firmer when the engine's off though. The whole clutch hydraulic line isn't connected to the engine in any way. Sounds like it could be a problem with the throw out bearing or something. You probably wont have to buy a new clutch plate, so don't worry about your investment of the new clutch. Try undoing the slave cylinder and get a mate to depress the clutch pedal. Check to see if it moves the slave piston in and out. If not, then theres probably a problem with the slave or master cylinder. If it does move, then you're looking at a new clutch system.

Re: help tranny problem

mike man is pretty much on it there. But.....

On the up side it could be as simple as air or water in your clutch lines. In that case a good bleeding and flush should help.

Re: help tranny problem

i change the slave cylinder but not working. there is a part coming out of the tranny that when i press on yhe clutch is suppose to pump the slave cylinder. that part is not moving when i'm pumping the clutch to purge the line.

Erm, if you have the bleed valve open (to purge the system) the slave cylinder wont move. Close all bleed valves, and remove the slave cylinder from the bottom of the tranny. Then get a mate to move the clutch pedal and see if the slave cylinder moves.
