service engine soon light on 88 cherokee

how do i get it diagnosed? there is no way for me to know what goes wrong.

Turn the Key on then off then back on again. Your service engine light should flash to tell what code it is.

its a maintenance light,not check engine.its turned on by a timer under the dash.that system doesnt store codes.to turn the light off,just unplug the timer.its under the steering column.its a semi transparent box with a bunch of white plastic gears inside.

so this jeep doesn't have a service light!! it doesnt have an OBD.. but it does have the two plugs outside under the hood can i buy something to check it.

Will not set codes,you can read certain systems but its very limited.

there is a tool called a drb 2 that works on that.it can do system tests and at the end of the test it will say either no faults or it gives you a code with no description.
