spark plug wires

Help, my 6 cyl 1996 jeep cherokee was not running good skipping. I changed the spark plugs and wires and now it wont start. The spark plug gap was already set, maybe the wires are out of order. I pulled them of and replaced them and am not sure they are in order. I am in no way a mechanic. I need help.

FIRING ORDER FOR 4.0=== 1-5-3-6-2-4 CLOCKWISE NO. 1 IS MARKED ON THE CAP. HOPE THIS HELPS DALE

what if the replacement cap doesnt have a 1 on it...

there is a number 2, but that configuration doesnt work on my 1987 cherokee inline 6

The distributer hold down screw farthest from the block is between #1 and #4. #1 is the rear most of the two.

okay, so #1 is the post located furthest from the engine block, then the screw, then the #4 post? is that right

looking from the passenger side, #1 is on the left and #4 on the right.

Distributer rotation is clockwise
