Gas Tank Latch
We have a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM and to get to our gas tank cap we have to pull this little lever next to the driver's seat. Yesterday when we went to the gas station, I pulled it and it opened. But now the thing that latches the cover wont come out and latch it so it is stuck open. What do I do? Please help.!!

Re: Gas Tank Latch
It could just be dirty and stuck. Did you try spraying a little WD-40 in their to work it loose? Either that or the spring or cable has gone bad.

Lucky yours is open. Last week mine wouldn't open. I suppose the cable broke or came disconnected. We've had sub-zero weather and the doors are froze shut - can't even get it in the garage!
Looked at the shop manual and it seems you have to take out most of the interior to change the cable. Sure hope it's just disconnected at an end. Bruce |
