engine swaps

what is the best swap to do in terms of power? the 1MZ-FE is great when supercharged but that is quite a bit of money and i want to do it up right. the 3SGTE is a good engine and is an 'easy' swap, there is also another 4 banger option but i dont know what it is, if anyone knows could they please tell me what the best engine is to swap in? i want the V6 but it isnt that much of a power gain by itself and if i did that i would supercharge it but i dont know if i want to spend that much money. if i swaped in the 4 banger id want to turbo it

Re: engine swaps

All I know about this is that the Solara V6 offers a very good option for a swap. There's actually a page out there that gives a complete walkthrough of what was done with pictures the whole way through. It's an awesome sight to see the engine bay of an MR2 open up to a V6...

Another option I'd consider if you want to be original-ish (it's been done before, but not often) is getting a rotary engine from the RX8. Rotary engines are just cool, in my opinion. I love 'em. Not very economic as far as price-to-horsepower, but still, you'd be one of the elite few who have a rotary powered MR2.

As far as the most economical all said-and-done, I'd say get a rear clip from a 3rd generation shipped over from Japan for right around $1500. That'll get you 145 HP with the stock turbo and if you can piece together a custom turbo kit you can get another easy 50-100 HP out of that engine with little other mods. So you're looking at around $3000 total cost for the 3S-GTE swap to get your car up around 300-350 RWHP. Yup yup. That's what I'm gonna do.
