Stereo Removal From Dash

I have a 2000 Silverado that I had a aftermarket head unit put in. Well after a couple of years I sold that and put the original OEM unit back in.

When I put it back in the wires to the left rear speaker was loose so I had to take it back out and fix that.

Now 6 months later the units lights go out when the sensor turns on the headlights and interior lights. When that happens the interior works but the stereo lights don't work (although the unit plays music normally).

So today I went to take it out to make sure all the wires were in right and I noticed that the unit only pulls out one inch or two because there is only minimum slack in the wiring behind the stereo unit.

I think if I can take the top part of the dash off, the large one piece off, then I can get in there and work. I took off all the screws but it is still secure where the handle bar on the passenger side is. Can anyone help me get this thing off?

Thanks alot.

To get that grab bar off, you'll need to first remove the air duct on the far passenger side. Just pop it out using a small flathead screwdriver. When you get this out, look inside the hole, you'll see the ends of the dashboard grab bar. Use a pry tool and push out the ends and pull the bar off. Hope this helps you out, man.

Sounds like a lot of work to pull the dash off just to get the radio out.
It sounds like you may just have the wiring harness or the antenna plug stuck on something. I would try to pull it out again by twisting, turning pulling etc. before pulling the dash off. Chances are that the first time it came out nobody pulled off the dash
