Question '98 Stratus - Check Engine Light

My '98 Stratus' Check Engine light came on a few days ago, went off for a day, then came back on again. It has 150,000 miles, but runs GREAT. Except now, when it sits outside for a while in REALLY cold weather (< 10 degrees), the engine won't idle, and runs a tiny bit rough (I used HEET recently to try and make it better, but it didn't). Could these be related, and what should I look at? PCV, fuel filter? Thanks, anyone.

Re: '98 Stratus - Check Engine Light

to find out why your check engine light is on turn your key on/off 3xs ending in the on position. Read the number times the check engine light flashes. Example: if it flashes twice then pauses then flashes again another 4 times, that a code 24.

Thanks for your reply. I did what you said, and the Check Engine light stayed on briefly (about 1/2 sec), then turned off and stayed off until I started the engine. Did I do something wrong, or could it be that the light itself is faulty?

Re: '98 Stratus - Check Engine Light

unfortunately on the models from 1997 on you need a scan tool to read the codes (they are cheap about 35 bucks on ebay I just bought one) ou can do the ignition code check on eht older cars. to simply reset the licht and see if it comes back later you can disconnect the battery (have been told from a few minutes to over night, I usually did over night) and that will reset the light unless the problem still exixts thend it will come back on hope this helps you...

Thank you, jdsatyr - I appreciate the idea, and I'll give that a try.
