I had just recently bought a used 86 Grand Am and I am afraid that the heater core needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any idea how much one goes for and have a few links to some good cheap ones???
Also the front driver side tire has a leak and needs to be replaced... The joys of the first car... :

Re: Just got it...
Not bad problems for a nearly 20 yearold car ambiez. Heatcore's usually go from 60 to 90 $ if I remmeber correctly.
I'm not sure about links for the heater core - if you can't find one online, then just go to a place like autozone and have them order u one. it'll cost about the same. and I wouldn't replace a tire just for a leak. Take it into any tire shop, and they should be able to patch it up for 15 to 20$, and she'll be good as new. |

Re: Just got it...
Yeah, but the tread on the two front tires look a little bit scary. And I just searched around and saw that I could get those replaced for about 74 dollars. I checked autozone online and I think I saw a heater core for like 30 dollars, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for, being that I'm so car knowledge impaired. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...%7EHEATER+CORE

Re: Just got it...
There are other things wrong, like the driver seat backrest seems to be broken and unajustable, but it's not much of a problem being that it's at a half comfortable position, and I do wish that it would scoot up more cause, I can reach the pedals fine, it's just uncomfortable distance by like... an inch.

Re: Just got it...
get that aluminum one for 31.99 at this address
http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...7C%7EEA%7C%7EB O and ok from what you said about the tread, maybe it is about time to get them replaced. If the driver seat supports are broken down, the easiest route would be just to buy a used seat from a junkyard or something. It should be less then 100 bucks. That is, if it's even enough of an issue to replace. You might be able to rig up a pillow or piece of foam and strap it to the seat to push you forward enough. Just be creative. |

Re: Just got it...
Go to walmart to get your tire replaced. You can probably get an all season tire for around 50 or so.
How do you know the heater core needs to be replaced? Are you loosing coolant? No heat? |

Re: Just got it...
Just heard from a lot of people, but I'm lookin' around just in case. I'm not sure if I'm leaking coolant or not, I just recieved the car and had to put fluids in it today. I'll have to check after work.
