1st and Reverse gear stick

Sometimes when I go to put my car in reverse, the gear wont go in all the way. Sometimes i can get it the first time, but most of the time i have to play around with it once or twice before it even goes into the gear. Also this happens more ofter with first gear. Its more often from while im driving i put it in nuetral to come to a stop sign, and then when i go to put it in first after i stop, it wont go into the gear. Can anyone help..?

Re: 1st and Reverse gear stick

Yeah I have the same problem...I think it's just the nature of the transmission...all you have to do is let off the clutch and then push it back in and it'll go right into gear. I had that happen a few times at stoplights, wouldn't go into gear, so I ended up looking like I couldn't drive stick lol. But I finally figured out to just let off the clutch and push it back in.

I have the same problem; I've had a few 2nd gear starts because of it. Annoying.

Re: 1st and Reverse gear stick

Same here....1st and reverse. Good to know it's a "common" among us 3Sers.

Yeah i know what you mean.. i though I was the only one. Good thread. I wonder if by any chance a short throw shifter would fix it..

Between $100 and $160. I may invest in one of those.

Re: 1st and Reverse gear stick

The shifter wont change it...it's common with our trannys.

It's true the short throw stick won't help.

If anything, it might seem a bit worse, since you'll have less leverage than with the taller stick. I just got one (a short throw) from 3SX and it can be troublesome, especially if it's cold. It's generally ok once the tranny warms up a bit.
