4WD Indicator Light

I just bought a 1996 Rodeo LS 4WD with the 3.2 V6. I have a problem with the 4WD indicator light staying on. Sense I owned it the light has not gone off. The truck shifts well into 4WD Hi and Low, and I even jacked it up off all 4s to see if the wheels turned. Other than the 4WD light I can't see a problem with the four wheel drive system.

The Check engine light also was on. I took it to a shop and the computer said it was something about low catalyst effienciecy? I am assuming that has something to do with the O2 sensor?

Also, other issues I have is the rear wiper won't turn Off. It will turn on but I have to turn the key off to turn the wiper off. Also slight problems with the interior lights sometimes not turning on when the door, driver or passenger, is opened.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks alot!

Regarding the 4WD indicator light problem, my '97 did the same thing a couple of years ago. I had brought it to the dealer to troubleshoot a rear ABS annoyance and the technician said he can fix the 4WD light. By removing the skid plate you can see the indicator electrical switch (a couple of wires and a couple of vacuum hoses attached). Since my 4WD worked too, he first cleaned it and then adjusted the height of the switch using a new washer around the round ball switch. Worked good, only charged me for a 1/2 hour labor and I haven't had a problem since. I never did find out why the switch got out of adjustment though. Since it hangs so low, I might have had some hard pack snow jammed behind there at some point. thought I'd pass this on in case you want to attempt to check the switch yourself.

When you say it stays on, is on steady or blinking?

Its on steady, never goes out..

Highlandlake is right on. There is a ballbearing type switch on the passenger side of the t-case. This switch rides on one of the shift rails in the transfer case. It works with the detents in the shift rail. The washer seems like a valid fix if that will take care of it.

Don't worry about the two wires on the connector, they cannot be put in swapped. Isuzu made the ends different so you can't swap them.

Oil loss would be the only thing I'd worry about with fixing this in this manner. You might want to run a bead of silicone rtv around the threads and then where the washer contacts the connector and the t-case.
