We have a 1993 Toyota Celica, and while we would normally follow the old standby of "rocking the wheel, and turning the key" this is NOT working. I am 100% that the steering column is locked b/c when the car was parked, instead of the steering wheel returning to a normal "center" position, the car was shut off leaving the steering wheel at an angle. The wheel gives "just a little" and we have tried both sets of keys -w/o success. There are no other mechanical issues w/ the car...what other methods can be suggested?

This happened to me at work but it wasnt a celica it was a crown vic and we were in a hurry had the wheel turned all the way and threw it in park to get out in a hurry once i took the key out and tried to release it it wouldnt become unlocked... Oops oh well shit happens right well i got chewed out for it bc it was only like 5 weeks old and getting towed to the dealers. Oops, off topic, anyways get a friend to help you and turn the wheel as much as possible and while you keep it turned have the friend try the key it that doesnt work keep trying but use alot of pressure and it should release if not the locking mech. might be broken. Then i dont know what to tell you.

Re: Steering column locked......help!!!!
Tis is the age old question w/celicas. I had to by a used ing.switch from the junk yard. If you have to do this send an E-mail to [email protected] and I can walk you through it.
