A fellow musician and I are trying to start recording and producing in our area, and we're wondering about contracts. As far as I know we're not looking to sign anyone to our label or anything, we're just trying to find out if we have to have a contract for them sign. I'm assuming we would because there will be $ changing hands for this service, but everywhere I've searched online has been about signing a recording contract with a major label. Anyone here have any insight on this, or who can point me in the right direction where to look for info? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Recording contracts?
Im not positive about an actual contract needing to be signed since you wont be requiring any certian ammount of albums/songs to be recorded. However, you should have them sign a contract about rates and equiptment usage just in case something happens or they wont pay so you can have something to bring to court if something happens.

Re: Recording contracts?
Yeah that's what I figured. I know my partner used to be in a band with someone who ran their own studio in the area, so I'll get him to talk to that guy. I'll try and talk with him tomorrow about it more. Thanks for the feedback.
