1999 Windy Knocking UP DATE: Change Cam sensor

I have a 1999 Windstar. It has a knock that sounds like a main knocking but it is not. I have checked and it is coming from either inside the intake or just below the intake manifold. Has anyone had this problem or heard of it. Also, I have been driving slowly down the road about 35-45 and the Windy will hiccup -- yes, I said hiccup, and the motor jumps up about 300-400 rpms and goes on like nothing happened. Anyone had this problem? Thanks.

Stan

UPDATE:>>>>>> I change the cam sensor and it clear all the knocking sounds and the hiccups Makes you wonder dont it...? Now all I need to do is change th gaskets on the intake and it may last for a while longer.

Re: 1996 Windy Knocking

Two wild guesses for the two different causes (I would guess) for the two symptoms:

1. If you are lucky, the noise may be nothing more than a loose internal piece that's inside the plastic upper manifold. This condition may indicate that the upper manifold is getting loose "in general" due to seal deterioration ... and you may soon have the associated CEL (MIL) codes.

2. The "hiccups" can be caused by many things ... quite often something associated with ignition ... ig pack, cables, cam sensor, etc, etc. But I would like for you to also check the drive train harness routed close to the ac tubing on the firewall ... several '99's and '00's had chafing concerns. Best to remove the wiper arms and cowling for close inspection.

Thanks for the Info. Im going to spend tomorrow checking things out. I hope that it is not going to take me to long to find what is wrong. Another thing pop up the other day. A squealing of the fan belt is what it sounded like and the the Windy sputter, jump a cuple of times and clear up and did it again about 3 more time and ran good all the way home which was about 90 miles. I thought the Alternator or the water pump was locking up. Lord what is next????
