ignition switch???

when I tried to start my truck today and turned the key over somthing clicked then I got nothing . fan came on electric and lights but nothing happened the starter did not even try to click over like something got disconnected in the steering column. How do I get inside there I have never messed with that? I know when it gets real cold my key has always been hard to turn over and one time it stuck and the starter just kept turning over I had to pull the battery cable. but once it warms up it runs fine .. Not now though I get nothing... any suggestions?

Re: ignition switch???

The steering column will have to be lowered [carefully]to get to the ignition switch. It is located on top of column, under the dash.
A Hanes or Chilton manual will explain step by step.

Re: ignition switch???

Just a simple check but it has happened tome before. Pull it down to drive then back up to Park. I have missed getting it in all the way before. Just double check so you can say you did.

Re: ignition switch???

First , does the fan turn OFF when you turn the key fully to "start"?

If so, then you DO NOT have an ignition switch problem. It could be the MLPS on the trans, or the starter/relay itself.
