A/C grinding

When 97 Lumina running, the A/C clutch is grinding steel. The part outside the belt turns slowly but not uniformly. Steel grindings evident in surrounding area. Obvious sound of two steel disc’s grinding together, kind of a higher pitch sound.
Had problem last summer with frequent blowing of A/C fuse in block under hood on pass side.
Living in Buffalo, I don’t need A/C now, but it would seem it needs immediate attention.
Clutch repair ?? or new A/C unit ?? What do you think.

Re: A/C grinding

I would go for a new A/C compressor.

Re: A/C grinding

Mine actually was doing the same thing for a while then stopped. I had tried WD-40 to try and stop the rubbing. Don't know if that made any difference. You can drive it to the store. It won't break that soon from my experience.
