Exclamation Can Anyone Help!! Engine coolant/temperature light!

I have a 2000, 2.0 petrol beetle. I've had all sorts of problems such as the ESP not working, exhaust emmissions light on and the airbag light on. Now, extremly randomly the engine coolant/temperature light will come on blue sometimes and then stay on. Other times it may flash and other times it will be fine. This could all happen in the space of 1 minute or sometimes not at all. Do they have an electronic temperature sending unit? Could that be faulty? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

Yes the 2.0 engines have a ECT (coolant temp. sensor) that always go bad. The symptoms are the same you are having. The sensor is located on the left side of the engine (intake box side) below the engine cover On the coolant line coming from the radiator. The old style is black and the new style is green.
