GAs Gauge

Maybe some one can help me. My gas gauge stopped working. It was nto working last week and I thought itw as because of the cold. I live in Canada. So I took it to a under gorund garage and now it always reads empty even though I filled it up.

I did have my EGR valve checked last week and because an engine light came on and that was the code. Any ideas why its not working? How much would it cost to fix?

The float may be stuck or the wires from the sending unit in the tank could have become disconnected. If it's the sending unit they may have to drop the tank to get to it. I have a Ford Ranger and the gas gauge in it has become squirely so I reset the trip odometer at every fill up and I know what my mileage is so I know when I'm getting low.
