Re: Test Pipe Pain

Are you letting the PB blaster soak overnight? Also use a breaker bar, or something long to give you that extra leverage.

Also if you do a search, there was a thread quite a while ago that had a true 3" testpipe for around $60. Ebay testpipes are usually 2.75", but you can find them for $30.

Re: Test Pipe Pain

just a pipe or something that you can slip onto the end of a wrench to make hte handle longer...this gives you more torque to break the bolts free.

actually, a breaker bar is like a ratchet wrench, but the head does not rotate. this allows you to put more torque into the wrench without worrying about possibly damaging the rotating mechanism in the head of ratchet wrenches. BUT, if you have a quality ratchet wrench (craftsman, snap on, mac, ...) then you COULD put a pipe on the end of the ratchet to extend the wrench and allow for more leverage. However, if you take this route, definitely use the 1/2 inch drive ratchet, as its much stronger than the 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets.

Re: Test Pipe Pain

Oh...haha, you learn something new everyday...I just always used my craftsman 1/2" with a lead pipe.

Re: Test Pipe Pain

doesn't 3sxperformance.com sell top notch pipes for around $40? I remember getting a testpipe when I still had my old 3kgt but it was from bob at 3si.org so I'm not sure if the prices would be the same for either.

i bought my test pipe off e-bay from user performanceexhaust. here is one of his auctions http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW for the 3/S. He includes two exhaust gaskets. very good quality part; i was quite happy with it. easy 15 minute installation...provided you can get the rusted bolts off. As Igovert said, definitely let the PB blaster (or whatever rust penetrant you're using) soak overnight. Then spray the bolts again. Then put some elbow grease into it. its nice to have a friend to help you: he can hold the wrench on the head of the bolt while you turn the ratchet on the nut side of the bolt. if no luck, then just put the ratchet (make sure its the 1/2" drive) perpendicular to the car, and push it with your foot. of course you can kick it, but as the car is up on jack stands or a jack, i wouldn't recommend it.
