Tranny troubles
I've got an 88 wagoneer, 4 liter automatic. While driving I noticed it wasn't shifting smoothly. I pulled over and checked the fluid all seemed fine. I again started to drive and had no problems. 2 - 3 weeks later I started to drive and it wouldn't shift out of first. I tried shifting the gears manually and still had no luck. After looking at it awhile I thought the tranny was shot. I replaced the tranny and torque converter( $350.00 ) . Finally after days of work I had it back together and went to take it for a spin. Same problem! I've since found if I disconnect some wires from the passenger side of the tranny I can shift it manually. Now I have tons of snow but my 4x4 has no go

Re: Tranny troubles
Sorry to hear your troubles, believe it or not before my Jeep revved up to 300k rpm, I had the same shifting problem you described. In my case it was the throttle position sensor (T.P.S) After I replaced it, it shifted fine and it did'nt hit 3000k rpm unless I mashed the pedal. This site should help you:

Thanks!
The site you suggested was informative. Thanks. Once the temperature here warms up past -40. I'll have to give it a try.

Thank You!
I wish I knew about this site before I changed my tranny. The weather warmed up and I went to my local wrecker. I got a T.P.S. for $3.00,replaced it in 3 minutes, and my jeep runs great. Thanks for the responses.
