2006 Impala
LS & LT have 3.5 V6 211 hp......FWD????
LTZ have a 3.9 V6....... FWD????? SS has a 5.3 V8 303 hp RWD or FWD????? i have heard FWD, stupid if u ask me but whatever. If u buy this car in the first year of production ur gonna be sorry in my opinion :/. Post your comments www.chevyimpala.com all the specs here

They're all FWD.
And reliability should actually be quite good. The only "new engine" in the lineup is the 3.9. 3.5 is in the current Malibu & Maxx & G6; 5.3 in trucks (and Grand Prix GXP soon). The changes to the body style are really a "refresh". They're not that extensive. The Impala has a good reliability record. Doubt that'll change. But, yes, safer for sure to wait for an '07. Could be changing again, to RWD in '08. '09 at the latest.
