88 camry rear suspension...
bought an 88 camry 4cyl wagon, very inexpensive. around 160k, runs good, trans shifts good, too. replaced the exhaust system, front to rear. however... pushed the rear bumper down, struts obviously shot... ok, no problem, i'll just replace them, right? well, in the process of doing this, i discover that there is no stabilizer bar! the links are there, hanging on to the struts, but not connected to anything. the bar is just not there...no wonder the thing skipped around on the interstate during turns! anyway, how difficult is it to replace this thing? i do most all repairs myself, have ramps and hydraulic jack w/ jackstands, & necessary tools also. just need some instruction.- little help?

Re: 88 camry rear suspension...
Should be a piece of cake. Get one from a junk yard with any mounting hardware you are missing - buy new bushings - and bolt it on. Polish the spots on the bar that rub the bushings with a strip of emory cloth. You may need to support the fuel tank and lower it a couple of inches by loosening the band bolts. May be the easiest job you ever had.

Re: 88 camry rear suspension...
many thanx brian.- sounds like changing out the struts will be the most time-consuming part...

Re: 88 camry rear suspension...
No doubt. Put penetrating oil on any old bolts you have to loosen and let them sit a while.
You're welcome. |
