My first paint job Need Help!
Hey yall wussup.
I currently have a black 93 ford escort wagon. I have decided to repaint the whole car black myself. I need your guyses help. First off i would like to know what is an appropriate compressor to use for my paint job. Secondly i was wondering if someone could give me a step by step instruction on how to paint my car. I would like to know what sand paper i should use, and what to do first step by step, I would like to know about how many coats of each paint, primer, and clear coat. What will be all the materials necessary to get this job done. I would really appreciate a full step by step tutorial. |

Re: My first paint job Need Help!
I posted a step by step here before. So try searching. As far as compressor, I suggest 28gallon at least, with at least 6.5+ CFM.
Any other questions?

Ok since im gonna paint the whole thing over now i want to buy new paint. I want to paint the car black. Can someone tell me what primer, sealer, basecoat, and clearcoat (all with brand names and model numbers) i should buy for this project. Also please feel free to suggest additional products that i might have forgotten to list for this project.

Re: My first paint job Need Help!
Clean the car well using wax/grease removers, and a evaporating cleaner.
Spray an epoxy sealer, like PPG DP Series and follow the instructions on mixing and applying and any other specs. Sand it with 320. Then apply PPG K36, follow instructions on mixing and applying and any other specs. Finish sand it up to 800. Apply a PPG Base. (check with your dealer for more info.) Spray a PPG clear (Check with dealer on more info) I say check with your dealer because sometimes they have input for exactly what base you should use, I cant make that decision for you. There are several types, and I cant remember what all the product numbers mean off the top of my head like dealers can.

I was thinking more along the lines of....
Using a Acrylic lacquer paint job. Does a Raylax jet black Acrylic lacquer, Clear coat, and Thinner sound fine for the job. Can i still use the Epoxy sealer. Can i get the step by step like you just did with The acrylic laquer. |

I've never heard of rayflex, so therefore I couldnt tell you what you need. You need to use the same brand throughout the process.
