"Check Engine" light during shifting

I have a 93 Rodeo (2.6) and recently I noticed that as I accellerate through the gears, the "check engine" light comes on just before I shift to the next gear, then goes out until the RPM's come up again before the next shift and it's on again... in 5th gear it flashs on about 70 mph on the hwy and as soon as decellerate it goes out ..

Any thoughts??

Have your codes read.

Sounds like it could be emissions related so check the gas cap

When checking the gas cap, what exactly do I look for as the problem ?
