clutch and shifting help please

Help, I need some help as my husband is in Iraq and the mechanic working on my Jeep is banging his head against a brick wall and now I'm going to start.

I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler and we just put a new hydraulic clutch in as the old one completely stopped on me a few months back.

Now, after driving it about 700 miles and it did great, it's hesitating going into 2nd and 1st gear. Just today it started happening in 3rd and 4th as well. I messed around with it a bit in the parking lot at my job and it seems to only stick when I slow down and put it into neutral and then try to shift into 2nd or 1st. If I turn the engine off and back on I can shift fine again. I can also engage the clutch and shifter when it's turned off just fine.

Does anyone have any help for me to give to the mechanic? I have a baby and I was just about stranded in the middle of an intersection. Please help.

Re: clutch and shifting help please

If the problem didn't exist before the new clutch went in, I'd say there's something funky about the clutch installation. It might be time to get the mechanic to go through it again....

I know that's not much help.

I agree with "fred". Have your menchanic start with removing the tranny again and inspect the pressure plate and clutch package. Double check everything, thats the only way to begin to eliminate problems. Did he change the clutch pack or just the slave cylinder? Was there anything noticably wrong with theparts he removed?
