427

Right now i have a 400ci small block in my 1970 rs. It has beenbored out to a 406. I was curious, what would I have to do to get it around the 427ci number?
Thanks

You install the stroker crank in it with 3.875" stroke. These cranks are available from from Callies, Crower or Lunati. I am sure if you purchase this crank you'll have to buy custom rods; or a small base circle cam, longer rods then the stock 5.454" rods (unless you dont care about an extremely bad rod to stroke ratio), machine the block, custom pistons, and a stroker oil pan. There is perhaps even more to purchase but I do not remember at this time.

ARE YOU KIDDING? LOL. There was a 427 Ford FE Big Block, but have you never heard of a 427 Chevy BB? That is perhaps the most famous Chevy big block of all time! What do you think ran in the Vettes against the Cobras back in the day? It was a BB 427 Chevy. But the engine discussed here is a small block 400 being stroked out all the way to 427ci! With a little work it will fit.

Re: 427

Ahh.Nope , didn't know Gm produced something that had same displacement as the cobra. Sounds cool though like a mad power house. What was the fords 427 like 400 HP or something ? And Gm had equal ?

Re: 427

GM had the 366, 396, 402, 427, 454 and the newer 502s. Ford had the 390, 427, and 428 FE Big Blocks. Ford also made the 429s and 460s later on. There are more but I can't think of them at the moment. The engines were comparable (427s).

Thanks for all of your replies. I am going to look into this a bit more and see what I can do with it.

I think the newer zl-1 camaros have a 427 small block.

Re: 427

the 60's/70's Corvette engine could be ordered up to a 435hp 427, talk about roasting the tires to a cinder......

Re: 427

the 427 had a 4.125in bore and a 4in stroke if i remember correctly. so if you put a 4in stroke crank you will have a .030 over 427 equil to 433cid.

the ZL1 in 1969 was a 427 BB, the new ZL1 is a resleeved and stroked LS1 SB baised engine. Both all aluminum however.

Re: 427

Normally 427s are usually 400s bored .030" over with a 3.875" stroke. Then there is the 400 stock bore with the 4.00" stroke.
