96 1.0L Timing belt looking for instructions
I have read on the 1.3 the clearance to bolts is an issue. What is the best way and issues on a 1.0? I am 97k I don't think it has ever been replaced so it is being changed.
Thanks in advance. |

timing belt
On the 1.0 the timing belt is fairly easy to replace,I had an oil leak that broke mine (oil on belt) and could replace it in under 1 hour on the side of the road.
First loosen water pump pulley bolts, then loosen alt bolts and remove belt.remove water pump pulley, Remove 5 bolts from crank pulley using 8mm deep socket, then remove timing belt cover.Loosen the tensioner move it to the loosest spot and tighten up. Remove belt and replace then reinstall in reverse order. You can use a 17mm wrench to move engine after removing cover ,and line up timing marks (on crank there is a tab you line up with mark in engine cast and on cam use the 80 mark on pulley and line up with notch on top of guard behind pulley). If I missed anything important I'm sure someone will post and let you know.Good luck ,you shouldn't have any problems. |

So here is where I stand.
All the timing cover bolts are out, water pump pulley is off, alt/water pump belt is off. No combination of ratchet and sockets even 8mm deep will get the to the crank pulley bolts. The innner fender wall is right there, I also have what seems to be a double width pulley but only the inner gets used for the alt/water pump the outer must be for air or something. Any secrets to the 5 8mm bolts? |

Re: 96 1.0L Timing belt looking for instructions
You should be able to use a 8mm deep socket on a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and get the lowest one then turn the engine to get the next one.Or take out the 2 bolts in the front motor mount while you have a floor jack under oil pan on engine, then let it down slowly until you have clearance.
