Cam sensor

Anyone know of a way to set the cam position sensor on a 3.0 OHV 96 Taurus without buying the speical Ford tool. I'm replacing the whole she-bang.
Anyone, anyone.

Re: Cam sensor

The cam sensor and synchronizer are separate components and can be replaced separately. If you remove the cam sensor from the synchronizer and mark the position of the old synchronizer before removing it, mark the new synchronizer EXACTLY the same, and insert it in exactly the way the old one came out, everything should work fine. It's no different than removing and reinstalling a distributor. On the other hand, unless the synchronizer is making noise (squeaking), there is no reason to replace it. The cam sensor bolts right on top of it and there are no adjustments to make.
