96 gcl coughs and spits - almost backfires!
my 96 gcl cosntantly coughs and spits and almost backfires. Very rough idle. It does it worse when the engine is cold, but still continues once warm. The dealer has given me the run around and many things such as o2 sensor, fuel filter, gas, gas tank drain, spark plugs, general tune up have been done. It has been very frustrating and very expensive. Any ideas??

Re: 96 gcl coughs and spits - almost backfires!
well the dealer has pointed you in the right spot, try to put some HEET in the tank it will get rid of any moisture. O2 Sensor might also be a good idea (ussually if they go bad the CHECK ENGINE light will come on)maybe a good throttle body cleaning with some Carb or TB Cleaner will help.it could also be EGR valve/control solenoid, maybe the EGR valve is remaining open all the time this would cause poor performance (you would also smell a strong Gas/exhaust fumes smell).
I am sorry I wish this were easier but there are many things that could cause this problem. I would start with some HEET in the Gas Tank. then the good thorough Throttle Body Cleaning. |

Been there ... Replace all sensors, Cranks sensor , manifold sensor, o2 sensors ... all of them. It will cure your ills!

I will tried the HEET. Sound cheapest. Thanks.
