Re: egr block off help

Well i did mine and there is not much to write up. You need a good size peac of metal. Take the gasket from the EGR and trace it to the metal. Then cut i out, this will take a little time. Do it right, and make it fit good. You will need to dril holes where the bolts will go. Then make a new gasket for the bottem of the block off. Now make sure that you tighten it realy good. If any air get's in the other hole good by motor. You will not need the vac's on the t-body, or the vac's that go to the senc on the middel of the fire wall. You don't need them anymore. I think that's about it. Make your t-body vac go into each other or just block the holes. If i missed anything just ask. O yeah and you will through a ck engin light.

Less vac lines, and they say it gives you more power but i didn't see any. The only thing i saw was a ck engin light.

Re: egr block off help

Its not really done for power. Technically it should show a improvement because the intake air will be a hell of a lot cooler. Also now your intake manifold will be cleaner... yea with a egr it looks like someone shit in there.

O yea and the damn pipe wont melt any wires.

Re: egr block off help

Just to clear up some things about the EGR valve...

First, the EGR is only used during closed-loop operation and is not used at all while under WOT. The entire purpose of the EGR is to recirculate an already burnt, and therefore inert*, gas into the intake stream to help keep cylinder temps down and reduce knock (strange concept, I know, but the amount of exhaust gas being recirculated is so minute that the intake temp will hardly be effected by it). Removing the EGR can/will lead to excessive part-throttle knock since this inert gas is no longer present in the intake stream.

This inert gas also helps create a more complete burn which increases gas mileage. I have heard from numerous people that have lost 1-2 mpg immediately after removing their EGR.

The ONLY advantage to removing the EGR is to keep the intake path clean. Also, a malfunctioning EGR can cause idle issues, but you would be MUCH better off buying a new one than blocking it off/removing it. The negative effects of blocking off/removing the EGR greatly outweigh the one or two positive effects it has.

*Inert, by definition: Not readily reactive with other elements; forming few or no chemical compounds.
Basically, since the mixture has already been burnt, it will not want to burn/combust again (think about trying to burn ashes, or even a firework wick after it has already been burnt).

To recap:
1. Worse gas mileage when EGR is blocked
2. Increased part-throttle knock when EGR is blocked
3. For the hippies' sake, causes more pollution when the EGR is blocked
4. EGR not even used during WOT
5. EGR keeps knock down because it's an inert gas
6. Intake path will be cleaner when EGR is blocked

Re: egr block off help

right on guys. the main reason im going to block off the egr is cuz im swapping a 1g tb and when i do that i might as well get rid of a few emisions since i live in a hippy hating state. also, i have bad carbon build up and i dont want that carbon going right back where it came from... also my gsx isnt my dailydriver so im not worried about mpg. the only thing im worried about is more knock which wont be a problem once i start tuning the car. thanks for the advice fellas
