engine swap?
I have a 94 gc ltd. with the 5.2 v-8 all time 4x4. The engine doesn't seem to have any problems other than it waste way too much gas. City I only get around 10 miles/g. It has about 170,000 miles but still sounds fine. Is there anything I can do to get descent gas milage on this thing?
I was thinking about an engine swap to a 6 cylinder motor. Any suggestions on something that would be a more or less easy intall? and what parts would I need to get along with the engine. Im looking to spend no more than about $1,300 to get good milage. |

Re: engine swap?
well $1300 is alot to spend you can easy bust that milage up with less then that.
-K&N FIPK cold air intake system -Intake Manifold could help unfortunately I have not found one (Fuel injected and EGR). -a good cat-back system (not only will it pump up the HP but give better gas milage as well) -Underdrive pulleys (will slow down accessories to allow the engine to work a lil easier, which is never a bad thing.) -and most importantly general maintenence Plugs and wires. Fuel Filter. Air Filter. Fluid/filter changes (Engine, Tranny, Transfer Case, Differentials, Steering, Cooling) - these will all help cool engine (helps against preignition) and lower friction/resistance. O2 Sensor. 180 Degree Thermostat. and I am sure there are soooo many more that I am not thinking of at this moment, remember sometimes the little things make the biggest improvements. People always forget about the general/schedule maintenence, this not only helps keep everything running smoothly but also helps with the milage, also I recommend for the Engine, Diffs, and Transfer Case - Synthetic Lube (No Synthetic Additives). this was tested one HP TV (they used Royal Purple Syn lube in everything - which I recommend) they used in Tranny, Engine, Rear Diff, and Royal Purple coolant additive (I think it's call Purple Ice) and ran it on the dyno got a 3 horse power gain and 1.6 MPG more. so this proves synthetics work. also RP say that the Purple Ice will lower coolant tempature by up to 35 degrees (I think that was it). |
