1990 overheating

Added autometer temp gauge used back of water pump for connection temp went to 200 deg. pulled thermostat checked it bad.. replaced it, refilled system started car temp gauge wont move car still overheats in process of exchanging temp gauge,factory gauge has never woked since i owned car. Question do you need to bleed the system?? if so how car has a 305 vin E. Or is there something else?? there is no water in oil, turned on heater no heat.. Help

ok well the temp sending unit is on the passenger side of the block, also does your cooling fan work??? first try turning on air conditioner and see if that kicks on the fan if not jump the power over to the battery see if that works... if no try replacing the fan motor and or relay. as for bleeding the system all u have to do is remove radiator cap start the car and let the fluid rise to the top of the filler neck then cap the radiator and wala system is bleed

Thanks got got the system bled but the fan only runs when the a/c is turned on otherwise the temp goes past 200 with the a/c switch on it runs between 160-185 and still the car has no heat?? any ideas???

Actually the temp sensor that controls the temp guage is on the drivers side of the block between the front two spark plugs. The fan switch (which looks very similar) is on the passenger side near the rear of the block. The electric fan doesn't come on until around 230 degrees and the stock thermostat is 190 degrees. Would be pointless for the fan to come on before the thermostat starts circulating coolant thru the block. These camaro's are designed to run hot in order to lower emissions. If your not getting heat thru the vent system you may have a blockage in the coolant system somewhere. Collasped hose maybe? Heater core bad? I admit the cooling system is one of my weak points.
