For Newbies and others, please read.

Quote:
"If you want a response to a problem, be specific. Tell us about important details, like make/model/year, engine & transmission type. What events led to the problem, and what steps YOU have taken to figure it out. Then, maybe someone can help you out with the problem."
-Marc 01/05
I have made a suggestion to have a more elaborate version of my quote to be posted as a sticky.

For those of you who wonder why no one responds to certain threads, this in my experience, is usually due to lack of valuable information when posting a thread.

There are a lot of questions that come across the board, but not enough people with the experience and background to answer all of these threads all of the time. If you don't get a response right away, there is no point and getting mad about it because that will deffinately put a thread on the back burner. Instead, be patient. If still no response, politely ask again or review your thread and see if there may be a reason why no one may be responding to it and edit/repost as necessary. Not everyone has the time to sit and ask to have information given that should already be included in a thread regarding a specific problem, instead they usually move on to the next more clearly written thread.

Hope this helps everyone out.

Marc

Re: For Newbies and others, please read.

I second that Marc. If any frequent GA mods are reading this (such as GTP dad), marc's post should become a sticky. It seems like 75% of the time a newbie asks a question on the GA forum, they fail to specify critical things like engine type. A sticky thread would be very helpful.

Just in the few days since I replied to this, I've read like 10 new threads where this information would've been helpful. Please... for the love of GA...

Agreed. It helps big time and as a noob myself its a good way of explaining it without offending us. I love that word "noob" it has so many uses!! Another thing that would be helpfull is folks who are critical of others for example I was helping a kid out with underbody lights on a toyota tercel and the only other replies other than me trying to help him was from folks saying his car is a piece of crap. Im suprised he kept his composure from those responses. I noticed alot of folks think this is a fight forum and thats something I dont like myself personally. I have gotten good tips and easy fixes from this lovely forum and I try to do what I believe my part is by helping as much as I can myself.

Re: For Newbies and others, please read.

Wow, I thought this thread drifted into oblivion when I no longer saw it on the first page. I figured people just ignored it. It makes life a lot easier across the board when the levels of communication are more clear. And as Mark stated, there's no point in cutting up someone elses ride when they are just looking for help. It makes it hard for everyone to stay on board. If I was newbie and someone cut me up for no reason I'd be looking for the next better composed forum.

Thanks guys!
Marc

Guys I think your best bet to get this a sticky is to PM GTPdad. I would love to try and take care of this for you but this is not my forum but because of the size that the Grand Am forum has grown to I would agree some outlined rules and request's for posting would be of benefit to all members but just my .02 cents. GTPdad is the boss here and has answered 99% of the questions from what I have seen.
