Dying out

Today I was going about 20-25 mph and my 2001 LS died out. I have no clue why this happened. it was raining heavy but I don't think that had anything to do with it. I pulled over to the side and started it back up and continued on my journey. Has this ever happened to anyone out there? Also I been having trouble starting it, sometimes it would just crank five or six times before it started. My PATS light blinks very fast while its trying to crank over ,and my dealer says it sounds like a problem with the anti-theft system. I will bring my car in next week for that problem. This car is starting to upset me!!

Re: Dying out

I had the shutdown problem you speak of as well as a few other folks I know. Mine became consistently worse over a short period of time. It would happen on the Hwy, stop lights and side streets. Speed or RPM did not seem to play a role.

They finally fixed my car after leaving it in the shop for over 90 days. The senior tech would drive it to and from work so he could monitor the car thoroughly. Eventually they settled the problem by replacing two fuel pumps and the REM, rear electronic module.

Re: Dying out

The problem your having is probably related directly to water leaking into the engine compartment from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Look in the very back for traces of water on your wiring harness. When the water shorts out a coil pack there is so much voltage that it freaks out the computer for a few minutes. If there is no water you still could have a shorting coil. Get your car scanned by someone and if you get a 1000 or if they say no codes are found that is what it is. There was a small PATS problem(wire overlay would fix) with those but that would affect only on start ups and would not cut off the car. Trust me on this I had one get my goat for a while untill I got the right ford rep that had seen it before.
