2000 Rear 6x9 Speaker Recommendations

I have a 2000 GT Coupe with the non-bose stereo system. I have replaced the rear factory 6x9's with Pioneer TS-A6960 3-way speakers. I am not getting very good sound quality from the new Pioneers. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on an economical pair of 6x9's that have good sound quality. Would it make a difference to go with new 2-way speakers as opposed to 3-way speakers? Lastly, what does the max wattage and recommended wattage need to be on these speakers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
