Rubber hoses cracked, loose connectors. Seek out, Correct immediately if you dont like fires...

I suppose one can smell only leaked evaporated gas? Functional vehicle does not leak. Gasolin comes pumped from rear tank via rubberhoses, overflow returns back as the pressure valve allows.

What do u mean: "theres got to be?". What else there can be but a leak? Or wrong diag on smell...

Replace hoses, also the rail interconnector hose.

You do want to keep secrets, do you? Does not help - if help asked. Tell now all symptoms, car history...

20sec start is an real problem indication. Gas smell added, time for repair. With this info I would think one or more injectors leaking: anyways the gas is not ignited and comes through raw. If this is the reason, only way is to replace worn injectors, ...costly.

Bad ignition? Anyways, do this first: Change plugs, NGK. Cracked coils? (you may take off, clean the coils with electronics cleaner, add insulation -electronics high voltage laqcuer, self vulcanizing rubber tape) or just buy all new.
For quick coil tst: wrap coils into some dry cloth.

After your vehicle starts how does it idle for the first 10 sec.?You need to use your God given sniffer{nose}to track down the fuel smell.Inside the vehicle? At the front under hood?at the rear?Sounds like you are losing your fuel pressure while not running.Sounds like fuel is escaping externally.Follow your fuel lines {pressure and return} from the tank to the fuel rail , and from pressure regulator to tank.

I had the same problem and it took me awhile for me to find the problem. It was the fuel line under the driver side that was leaking. I Had the fuel line replaced with rubber tubing at the dealership.
